Project Manager (50%) - Innovation Program for Makerspaces in Ukraine



The Ukrainian innovation ecosystem is central to sustainable and forward-looking societal development. The Maker movement plays an important role in this regard, but it faces additional challenges due to the ongoing conflict. The planned program aims to promote innovations at the intersection of technology and the common good, enabling active shaping of the future even in times of war.

Specifically, the project aims to finance collaboratively generated innovative ideas from makers, focusing on quality over quantity, impact over profit, and cooperation over competition. To implement the innovation program, which we will carry out in collaboration with the betterplace lab as well as local and international partners, we are looking for a project manager (50%).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the project lead in implementing the project
  • Manage the project components of the innovation program
  • Coordinate various activities on-site together with local partners
  • Handle communication and community management with different stakeholders
  • Work closely with our partner organizations in Berlin and Ukraine
  • Assist with documentation and reporting (Project Controlling and Reporting) according to the processes, instruments, and guidelines of the funders

Profile

  • You have experience in project management and approach implementation with foresight
  • Fluent in Ukrainian and very good in German or English
  • Familiar with or have a strong interest in the civil society landscape and the Maker scene in Ukraine
  • Excited about collaborative work in a small team with competency-based hierarchies
  • Familiar with self-organized work with regular check-ins
  • Proficient in using digital infrastructure and digital tools, ideally in the civil society sector
  • Possess a digital mindset and intercultural competence

Conditions

  • Project starts in September
  • Compensation depending on experience, around 3500 € gross full-time equivalent
  • 50% position (20 hours/week) with flexible working hours
  • Contract limited to 7 months with the possibility of extension (depending on contract extension from the funders)
  • Work location: flexible, remote work from home, preferably 1-2 times per week at the bUm in Berlin

Future Challenges focuses on the impact of digitalization on human rights. Established as an independent nonprofit organization since 2014, Future Challenges originally began in 2011 as a blogger platform by the Bertelsmann Stiftung to give people worldwide a voice to blog about topics such as globalization, democracy building, and human rights.

Student Assistant Reporting and Project Management (10-20 hours/week) - Innovation Program for Makerspaces in Ukraine

The Maker movement plays a significant role in this regard, but it faces additional challenges due to the ongoing conflict. The planned program aims to promote innovations at the intersection of technology and the common good, enabling active participation in shaping the future even during times of war.

Specifically, the project aims to finance collaboratively generated innovative ideas from Makers, emphasizing quality over quantity, impact over profit, and cooperation over competition. To implement the innovation program, which we are carrying out in collaboration with the betterplace lab as well as local and international partners, we are looking for a student assistant to work 10 to 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the project management for the components led by Future Challenges
  • Assist with documentation and reporting (Project Controlling and Reporting) according to the processes, instruments, and guidelines of the funders
  • Work closely with our project partners in Berlin and Ukraine

Profile:

  • Currently enrolled at a German university
  • Fluent in German and preferably with basic knowledge of Ukrainian
  • Have gained some previous work experience
  • Familiar with collaborative work using Google Docs and MS Office products
  • Interested in the civil society landscape and the Maker scene in Ukraine
  • Excited about collaborative work in a small team with competency-based hierarchies

Conditions:

  • Start in September
  • Payment of €13-14 per hour depending on experience
  • Contract limited to 7 months with the possibility of extension (depending on contract extension from the funders)
  • Approximately 10-20 hours per week depending on workload
  • Work location: flexible, remote work from home, with the option to be at the bUm in Berlin 1-2 times a week
