Sure that setting up national parks and protected areas would help a lot, in the case of small countries, or countries with narrow coastline, locking up a valuable part of the coast for a protected area is a request few government would accept for obvious economic reasons; thus encouraging laws such as French “loi littoral” and making a standard set-back distance would be a compromise those countries may accept.

This post reminds me of why it is so important for nations to set up national parks and protected areas. This is another alternative to having residential areas along the coastline, and would encourage development of hotels and other infrastructure further from the coast.

As an aside–I really liked the photos you used for this post. I feel that they illustrate the points in the article really well!
