“Inspiring people. Shaping the future. Participating in a globalized world.” That phrase succinctly sums up the work we carry out. For us, “participation” requires people capable of taking action, on the one hand, and a society that offers the appropriate opportunities on the other. The Bertelsmann Stiftung’s programs therefore focus on helping people achieve their full potential and on strengthening society and its political, economic and social systems.
Politically nonpartisan, the Bertelsmann Stiftung is a place where people come together to create forward-looking change. Our project work involves more than just developing compelling ideas. We are committed to ”helpfully improving the way things are,” to quote Reinhard Mohn, the Bertelsmann Stiftung’s founder.
Our mission statement succinctly explains the Bertelsmann Stiftung’s strategic objectives and provides essential direction on how to implement them. Our mission statement describes a critical part of our corporate culture; in it, we set forth how the Bertelsmann Stiftung plans to operate and develop, now and in the future. In addition, it serves as a guideline for our employees, explaining how we work, which issues we address and the manner in which we collaborate with others.
It thus serves as a tool for helping us pursue our goal of working more effectively in tackling key societal problems, effecting change and implementing reforms.
The Bertelsmann Stiftung considers itself a learning organization in which leadership through partnership and a willingness to engage in internal and external dialogue play a vital role.
